How to Apply

Prerequisites

Admission requires an undergraduate degree (B.S. or B.A.) in a biological or physical science, which should include adequate course work in the following areas: calculus; statistics; physics; general chemistry, including quantitative analysis; organic chemistry; biochemistry; genetics; introductory biology courses, including general biology, developmental biology, and cell biology.

Applications

Applications are accepted for fall quarter admission only, and should be made as early as possible. Applications must be completed by December 15.

  • The 2009 application will be available at the end of August. Please use the following link to access the Cell and Developmental Biology application: http://apply.embark.com/grad/ucdavis.

  • The application fee is $70 for the domestic application and $90 for the international. The fee may be paid by credit card or e-check. The fee must be paid before the application will be considered as complete, and the fee must be paid for each application submitted.

  • Letters of Recommendation must be submitted electronically through the online application. Do not have recommenders send letters in hard copy as they will not be reviewed.

  • Please wait to submit your transcripts only after you have marked your applications complete and submitted them. This allows for more efficient and effective matching of transcripts to applicants.

  • Submit only one transcript for each university or college you have attended. That transcript will be made available to faculty in each graduate program to which the applicant has applied, as well as for the review of the fellowship application.

  • Have your transcripts sent directly to the graduate program you have selected to apply to; in the case of multiple applications, applicants should send only one transcript to their first choice of graduate programs or to the first completed graduate program application.

  • You may upload required curriculum vitae, resume and/or writing sample via the online application web site.

  • Please use these codes for reporting electronic scores from the Graduate Record Examination General Test. Institution Code: 4834 and Department code: 0206.

  • TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for international students. Institution code: 4834 and Department code: 74.

The graduate group cannot review an application until all of the above components are received. Inquiries concerning application procedures or any other aspects of the program and requests for forms for admission to graduate study should be directed to:
