Welcome
The Biophysics Graduate Group offers a program leading to a Ph.D. degree in biophysics. The interdisciplinary program prepares students to conduct independent research at the interface of physics, chemistry, and biology. Faculty members have particular research interests in structural biology, membrane dynamics, electron transfer, computational biology, theory, cellular regulation, and imaging. Students choose from the broad biophysics research venues a research laboratory that matches their interests and career goals.
Faculty
The Biophysics Graduate Group comprises 50 faculty members from the biological sciences; medicine, physical, chemical and mathematical sciences; and engineering. Members of the group oversee the graduate program and provide training through courses and guidance in the research library.
Graduate students primarily learn current techniques for research using the variety of advanced instrumentation in the laboratory of their major professors, yet numerous specialized laboratories, research units, and high technology research facilities are also available for special projects.

Research within the Biophysics Graduate Group covers a wide range of topics at the interface between physics and biology.
Ph.D. students may also participate in the Designated Emphasis in Biophotonics or the Designated Emphasis in Biotechnology (DEB).
