Research Interests:
As director of the research for the Seed Biotechnology Center, my research interests focus on development of tools for plant breeding and the seed industry. Specifically my lab works on development of DNA markers (SNPs and Indels) and high-throuput analysis of DNA markers in tomato, cotton and lettuce. We are currently working on developing an Affymetrix chip for SNP discovery and analysis in lettuce. My lab also is testing the expression of Arabidopsis genes to improve, yield, quality and resistance to stress in tomaotes. My lab is developing Arabidopis lines to screen Polygalacturonase Inhibitor Proteins for their effect in controlling Lygus in alfalfa. To address co-existence of crop types we are investigating gene flow in cotton and alfalfa.
